Campers are assigned cabins by age and supervised by experienced counselors (many of whom are living with diabetes themselves) and a dedicated team of healthcare professionals including: pediatric endocrinologists; registered nurses; registered dietitians; pharmacists; and certified diabetes educators. Camp Morris is a “challenge-by-choice” environment where campers have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities that include: archery; canoeing; camp fires; swimming; zip-lines; arts and crafts; multiple challenge courses; and so much more! Our staff and volunteers are experts at “meeting campers where they’re at,” using teachable moments throughout the week to promote healthy, age-appropriate independence in diabetes management.

Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing is quickly becoming a popular sport in today's world. More and more people are discovering the joys of climbing in the numerous climbing gyms popping up across the country. In 2020 rock climbing will appear for the first time in the Olympics. Join us on our adventure to experience the heart and soul of climbing. Climbing in a gym is nothing like the excitement of putting hands on the holds of geologic time and beauty.

Our climbing program is led by American Mountain Guide Association professional climbing instructors. No experience necessary. We meet your skill level where you are at, from first time rock climbers to the regular rock hound. All participants start with the basics of safety at the climbing wall. We go over risk management strategies, gear use, belay technique, and climbing etiquette.

Canyoneering

In the southern Utah deserts, over thousands of years, the rare monsoon storms have cut deep into the earth to create mysterious and beautiful sandstone slot canyons. Canyoneering is the experience of following the path that these storms have cut, down into the folds of the earth. It is an adventure that requires teamwork while hiking through passages and rappelling on ropes. These adventures offer some of the most dazzling displays of light and beauty that the desert has to offer.

Just like our Climbing program, Canyoneering is led by American Mountain Guide Association professional instructors. No Experience necessary. We meet your skill level where you are at.

National & State Parks

After spending a day out adventuring, participants will return to camp at or near one of Utah's amazing State Parks. The group will cook and eat dinner together, have opportunities to shower, and just hangout and relax around the campfire. One of the state parks participants will visit is Goblin Valley State Park. Here they will have the opportunity to explore the unique goblin features as well as descending into the Chamber of the Basilisk.

Participants will either visit Zion National Park or Bryce Canyon National Park. In Zion dip your feet in the refreshing waters of the Virgin River and take in it's beauty as it cuts deeper into the thousand foot high canyon walls or hike the famous Angels Landing and take in the view from above. On a visit to Bryce Canyon National Park explore the unique and towering hoodoos, or hike across the famous Cassidy Arch. Finish the day's adventures relaxing by the steam edge and taking in the sights and sounds of the park.

JDRF One Challenge with Riding on Insulin

DESCRIPTION

JDRF has partnered with Riding on Insulin (ROI) to invite the local T1D community (ages 8 and over) to the first-ever One Challenge. ROI hosts ski/snowboard and mountain bike camps for T1Ds and their siblings across the U.S. and Canada. These camps are designed to empower, activate and connect the T1D community through shared experience and action sports. In addition to establishing a comfortable environment, they strive to help families explore new passions, challenge T1D, and celebrate each other’s successes. On May 19th at the US National Whitewater Center, we will prove together that there are no limits for those living with type 1 diabetes.

- FOR THOSE LIVING WITH T1D/ Sibling/ Spouse: This 1-day adventure offers you the chance to conquer "stereotypes" with your peers through mountain biking (AM session), whitewater rafting, ropes courses, or rock climbing (you’ll pick one for the afternoon session). ROI staff & volunteers will be there to coach you every step of the way!

- FOR THOSE WHO LOVE SOMEONE WITH T1D: This 1-day adventure will equip you with a morning of adrenaline- fueled fun: whitewater rafting, ropes courses, or rock climbing (you'll pick one). Your afternoon will focus on education, networking, and connection with others who love a T1D.

* Our hope with splitting participants into two tracks based on connection is to encourage everyone to share their unique experience of T1D along with the challenges.

We’re thrilled to announce that professional snowboarder, Sean Busby, will be the motivational keynote speaker of the day. RIDING ON INSULIN was born out of Sean's desire to give back to kids who inspired him to keep snowboarding after his own complicated diagnosis of T1D. Diagnosed with T1D at age 19, he read stories online of kids and teens living with the disease through JDRF's event, Children's Congress. He figured if they could do it (and know life no different), then surely so could he. He wanted to give back to those kids for inspiring him.
